Avoid The Worst Foods On Your Takeaway Menu

By admin | February 28, 2010

Obviously if you will choose something that is greasy and covered in batter, it’s not going to be as good as say a vegetable curry. It’s all simply knowing what’s good and what’s bad for you, then you will be able to be healthy while enjoying a meal treat.

Hopefully here are a few tips for choosing the best and the worst items on the menu, all for a range of takeaways:

Fish and Chips: The worst things on the menu tend to be chips, which you can’t really avoid, sausage, cheese and onion pie, steak and kidney pie. On the other hand, the best items are mainly fish, try and have code, haddock or plaice as these are the least fatty.

Pizza: The worst start would be to choose a deep pan pizza as the most fat is stored within the base. On the toppings side of things, try to avoid having extra cheese, whether it’s a topping or a stuffed crust, and also avoid meats like pepperoni. For more healthy options, choose either fish or vegetables on the top of a thin crust base.

Chinese: Try and stay away from anything that’s greasy and crispy because this means they have been deep fried which is definately not good. The items to try and avoid would be sweet and sour battered pork balls, spring rolls, and specially fried rice. As for the best items, it has to be steamed all the way. Items such as crab and corn soup, chicken, beef, boiled rice, or steamed vegetables are the healthiest options.

Indian food, just like Chinese, you should try and keep away from deep fried things and items that are creamy as these will have the most fat. The best ones on the menu would be some sort of vegetable curry, chicken tikka, madras, bhuna. The best thing to have with them would be boiled rice.

Hopefully when you order your next takeaway, you will change from your usual large chips and jumbo sausage to something a little healthier. As I was writing that, it made me realise that I order all of the bad items, but it’s the same with all foods you eat. The stuff that tastes the best, tends to be the worst for us.

A good takeaway can be ordered online quite easily and could for example be found using a search under ‘takeaway Birmingham‘ or ‘Chinese Takeaway Manchester‘ if that was your preference.
